Google, or an online placement agency, can provide a list of every assisted living and memory care community in Eugene and Springfield. But only a local senior living advisor knows them.
I visit regularly. I know their leadership teams. I stay in contact with families who have already moved in. I understand which communities manage complex medical needs well, and which are better suited for lighter care.
That knowledge, both visible and behind the scenes, allows me to match the right environment to the right person.
And that’s how the puzzle starts to come together.
We Act as a Gatekeeper
There is one more piece of this puzzle that often surprises families. Choosing communities is only part of the process. Protecting the family’s space is another.
The assessment is complete.
The tours are done.
Now the family is in the final phase: deciding which community they will trust with their loved one’s life.
Sometimes the decision comes quickly. But often, families need time to process, a few days, sometimes a few weeks, unless the situation is urgent.
During that time, something else happens.
The communities they toured understandably want their business. Phone calls and emails begin to arrive. And when families search on their own, that number can easily multiply.
My role at this stage is to serve as a gatekeeper so the family has the breathing room they need.
The communities we visit know that until a decision is made, I am the primary point of contact. If additional questions arise, the family can reach out to me, or directly to the community, on their own terms.
